Practical and Effective Traffic Violations Defense
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC, but often referred to as the DMV) imposes surcharges on drivers who accumulate too many points on their driving records within too short a time. There are also surcharges imposed for more serious traffic offenses. It is important to note that these surcharges are imposed for 3 years following each conviction.
- $100 for driving without a license
- $250 for driving with a suspended license or suspended registration
- $250 for operating an uninsured vehicle
- $1,000 for DUI
- $1,000 for refusal to take breathalyzer test
I have helped numerous individuals work within the system to reduce existing points through the completion of NJMVC-sponsored and NJMVC-approved driver improvement classes.
In court, I have been instrumental in negotiating plea agreements that result in fewer points. Even though some of the zero-point plea agreements result in higher fines in court, this is generally a better situation in the long run. Essentially, the client "buys down" the points in court to avoid the additional expense of NJMVC surcharges for point accumulation and/or increased insurance costs.
