Moving Violations
Newark Traffic Violations Lawyer
Are you an unlucky driver? Do you get speeding tickets whenever you drive through areas where the speed limit changes several times in a relatively short distance? Did you receive 4 points from NJMVC when you pled guilty to a third or subsequent downgrade to “unsafe driving” before you were eligible for a “zero-point” violation? Perhaps you paid a ticket without realizing the violation would result in points against your license. Maybe you missed your annual safe driving credit – a 3-point reduction in the points on your license– because your license was suspended for an unpaid parking.
If you wish to avoid the heavy costs associated with numerous tickets as well as the possibility of license suspension, call on The Law Office of Gwendolyn O. Austin. Contact my Newark, New Jersey office to schedule a free initial consultation.
The Point System:
- New Jersey uses a point system for traffic violations. Depending on the severity of a violation, you may earn between two and eight points.
- Points are cumulative – the more you earn, the greater the possibility that your license will be suspended. Even if your license is not suspended, you are subject to surcharges from NJMVC and increased insurance costs, each of which will be imposed for three years.
- Many people think that simply paying a ticket puts an end to their traffic problem. Yet paying a ticket is an admission of guilt. Each time you pay a ticket and admit your guilt, you may be racking up points.
Not Paying Attention Is Expensive:
- Too often, people immediately pay a traffic ticket, paying little attention to the number of tickets they have received over time. Those tickets translate into points on your driver’s license.
- Beyond the expense of paying a traffic violation ticket, you pay in another critical way. The accumulation of points over a short period of time may result in your driving privileges being limited through suspension of your license.
- If you are on a payment plan for paying old traffic violations and you fail to complete the payment plan on time, your license may be suspended for failing to comply with your time payment order. Many times this will happen without you receiving a notice of the suspension. You must notify NJMVC of all address changes to avoid problems where notices go to your old address and are not forwarded by the post office.
Let’s Resolve Your Traffic Violations Issues … Together:
- Working with an experienced traffic violations attorney can make a significant difference in your situation.
- I have had the opportunity of helping numerous individuals work within the system to reduce existing points through the completion of NJMVC sponsored and NJMVC approved Driver Improvement classes.
- In court, I have been instrumental in negotiating plea agreements that result in fewer points. Even though some of the ‘zero’ point plea agreements result in higher fines in court, this is generally a better situation in the long run. Essentially, the client ‘buys’ down the points in court in order to avoid the additional expense of NJMVC surcharges for point accumulation and/or increased insurance costs. If you are worried about the financial implications of hiring an attorney, the best way to have your questions answered is to contact me to schedule a free consultation.
